The over-life-sized statue is widely believed to be a Roman marble copy of a Greek bronze original of a Greek goddess, and is probably the famous Athena Lemnia by Phidias which stood on the Acropolis in Athens. Phidias was also the artistic director for the Parthenon. The original piece was commissioned between 451 and 447 B.C.E. The Roman copy was probably made between the late first century B.C.E. and early first century C.E. The German archaeologist Adolf Furtwängler (1853-1907) identified a marble head in the Museo Civico at Bologna and two full statues in Dresden as copies of the original Athena Lemnia by Phidias. His conclusion is still widely agreed with today.

Items must be opened and inspected within 48 hours of delivery to report any damage.
