77 Inches High x 21.5 Inches Wide x 19.5 Inches Deep

An early example of monumental, free standing sculpture from early Greek art. The statue is over six feet tall and has a cylindrical shape that was derived from Mesopotamia. The piece is part of a statuary group offered by an Ionian aristocrat, Cheramyes, to the goddess Hera for her temple on Samos. The piece was discovered near the temple in 1875. An engraving that runs along the edge of the veil reads on the original piece, "Cheramyes dedicated me to Hera as an offering".
