The head was first featured in the P.P. Caproni and Brother 1923 catalog as a blocked study piece. Since the base is inscribed with the company name, P.P. Caproni and Brother probably created this sculpture for its many educational institution clients. The piece might have been sculpted by someone in-house or by a hired sculptor. The head continues to be a great art study today.
