Beethoven - Item #105
17 Inches High x 10 Inches Wide x 10 Inches Deep
This life-size bust depicts Ludwig van Beethoven, the famed German composer who lived from 1770 to 1827. The sculptor, the German Hugo Hagen (1818-1871), based it off of a life mask that was taken in 1812 by Austrian sculptor Franz Klein (1779-1840) of the then 42-year-old Beethoven. There are copies of the sculpture at the château of Hradec nad Moravicí in the Czech Republic where Beethoven had been a guest of his patron, Karl Alois, 2nd Prince Lichnowsky.
