Male Head - Item #439
16.75 Inches High x 8.5 Inches Wide x 12 Inches Deep
The head was created during the Hellenistic period of Ancient Rome. As with much art of this period, it imitated Greek art. The male head is in the style of Archaic Greek sculpture and resembles the heads of the popular kouros figures, or figures of young males. In the original marble, the eyes were hollowed to allow for inlay of precious stones. The hair is designed into three rows of ringlets and held at the back in two sections by a fillet, or a hair piece that wraps around the head.
